Chinese New Year

Year of the Tiger-"Drama, intensity, change and travel will be the keywords for 2010. Unfortunately, world conflicts and disasters tend to feature during Tiger years also, so it won’t be a dull 12 months for anyone. The Year of the Tiger will bring far reaching changes for everyone. New inventions and incredible technological advances have a good chance of occurring. For all of the Chinese horoscope signs, this year is one to be active – seizing opportunities and making the most of our personal and very individual talents. Everything happens quickly and dramatically in a Tiger year – blink and you could miss an important chance of a lifetime!" taken from wayangtimes.com

This pretty much sums up the next year as it is planned for me.. Seriously I feel like if I blink right now I will miss a lot. Planning internships, booking shoots, setting up different websites, portfolios, etc. It's already been an interesting start to 2010, so hopefully the Tiger will bring even more excitement. So, time for photos. :)

At the parade, which was not as big of an event as I thought, there were so many things that I watched for. But, mainly, I enjoyed watching the kids reactions to what was happening. I always enjoy childrens responses to things. The boy blowing his little horn at the Police officers was by far my favorite one. And the little Chinese girl waving the American flag, she was a hoot! Every time I lifted my camera she would tell me to take her picture, but I refused, until finally I caught her getting really excited :) So, all in all, I have realized that I enjoyed the crowd more than the actual parade itself. It was uugly and overcast, but all in all an okay day. Like I said, the parade was more people not dressed up than there were dressed. Some of which were just walking, I dunno if they were represented or not. :) We didn't stay for the firecracker, instead we went to the Navy Memorial Museum, which was another total blow out, I need to go check out the one on the base instead.

Zac and Amber

So, I've known Zac since he was born, it's nice to see him all grown up and living life! We had a great time in the studio playing around. He wants to come back, so that should be fun! :) Maybe I'll use him as a stand in model while Kris is gone :) Theyre too cute :) Still working on the kissing picture, but I thought it would be funny to shoot them separate and then put them together. So, here it goes.. :)

Well, off to Chinatown tomorrow for New year!! Happy New Year! Wear red! It's supposed to bring good luck and fortune in your new year!

Emilee :)

So, our friends' baby, Emilee was 5 months on Valentine's day. I went over to hang out a bit and snapped a few shots. She was pretty sleepy, but I got a few that made me smile. :) Can't wait to shoot more baby photos. :) They're super fun!

love. Valentine's day. this is for you!

To escape the snow...
To see my husband on Valentine's Day...
Yes, this trip was much needed.

Love. You. Forever.

Found this. it's one of the best things I have read in a while. simple, awesome, us.

"Love is a temporary madness. It erupts like an earthquake and then subsides. And when it subsides you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your roots have become so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. Because this is what love is. Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the promulgation of promises of eternal passion. That is just being "in love" which any of us can convince ourselves we are. Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away, and this is both an art and a fortunate accident. Your mother and I had it, we had roots that grew towards each other underground, and when all the pretty blossom had fallen from our branches we found that we were one tree and not two."
-St. Augustine

We stayed at my friend's house and made dinner, drank wine, laughed, took silly pictures, listened to cheesy love songs, and most importantly. . . we were together. People ask me constantly, "when will you see him again?" or "that must be so hard, how do you do it" well, there's no describing what it is. it just happens, like roots that "grow together underground". Nothing phases the relationship we have. Yes, we are the idiotic couple that hold hands through the grocery store, pick out movies together in the store, talk about everything from clothes, styles, music and toilet paper. It's a matter of communication, trust and connection.

Love you Kris. Thanks for being you.

sensory overload.

So, today I spent running around town running errands and such, but I made some time to go through photos... Found about 300 photos from an art show in Charleston two summers ago. Wow, makes me love my camera and it's ability to capture photos in dark lighting situations, but, I kind of enjoy these photos the way they turned out, grainy, busy, and fun. So, I made the colors this way, because this was the exact atmosphere, sensory overload.

snowed in...

Well, I've cooked a lot, rearranged cabinets and closets, almost broke my toe from a can hitting it, now I have purple toes :) and I have dug out two cars, saved trees lives, and I'm about ready to be done with this game! I don't like being stuck inside... It's weird, although I know that I would normally stay indoors anyway, knowing you have the options makes a world of difference... and right now, I kinda dont. We dug my car out, I drove it up and put air in one of the tires that looked low.. but now, I'm just playing the waiting game... wait for it to melt... and on top of all of the snow we have now, they're calling for 12-20 inches more tomorrow!!! AHHH

So, here's a few photos from my friend Joel's apartment window, and a photo of Natalie and Luna, they're SO in love.

oh yes, and Kris's friends are in a band called Action Safari, so I designed this poster for a Breast Cancer Benefit show that they are playing. Had a little fun with the old school type posters, and as they say "sex sells" so hopefully some people will like the poster, and decide to come out and donate tot he fund :) and listen to good music too!

so, that's the last two days in a nutshell (or igloo)

The View from our window...

So, the video is a true tell of time, place, and light capture. It's amazing the different color casts that occurred through the window.

There were lots of photos taken at different times, but for the most part, it was very

snowpocalypse.

it's not very often that I see in color these days. I'm not too sure why....but, the sky was sooo beautiful, I couldn't resist. So, my camera was very good to me... wanna tell a little about a few of these...

the snowmen, are 6'3" tall, but they look so tiny because they were made in the middle of the night so the snow tried to swallow them up!

yes, that's a car!

yes, that's a mailbox!

umm...and all the light was just from the streetlights, these were taken around sunset. Everyone was finally out of their houses because it had finally stopped snowing :)

snow, saving the trees

you'd think since I've pretty much been snowed in, I would have written a lot more. Well, there's a project in the making, so no worries... I will have some awesome things coming soon. Promise, promises!

Well, here's one of the many snow photos to come!

This is a gigantic tree in back of our house that Natalie and I saved from the snowfall. While others were building snowmen and shoveling their driveways/sidewalks, we were beating a tree with a broom trying to save it from the heavy snow. At one point in time, the branches were almost touching the ground. I would wilt too with 30 inches of snow on my shoulders.

Okay, more to come. :)

cemetary, snow, large format.

wow... what a crazy combination i had going, slipping around in the snow, driving a car full of expensive camera equipment wasn't fun. But, I got some pretty cool stuff. what ya think?

I named the one, living amongst the dead. my favorite by far though, is the trees.. :) I almost hit that tree as I tried to plow through the cemetary.

much love, needed rest.

handpuppets

brain. wake. please. stop making that face at strangers. stop thinking those thoughts of negative. positive only, please. keep smiling. trudge on. past the the wake of those who dont understand. love for all those who cross your path. stop scowling at the humanity of strangers. well, i can't, I answer. this isn't the time for that. i have been rudely cut off. i have been interrupted. my mind left yearning for more. please let me speak. let me say my way. no. everyone has a right to do their part. let me do mine.

this is not negativity. this is. thoughts. heartfelt. love. indepth conversations with oneself. indepth conversations with others do not always prove to be so indepth. brush teeth. go to bed. rest your head. now where's the off switch. even off, it is on. even on it is off, at times.

kiss you, turn out the light. revert to childhood in an attempt at regaining consciousness. readiness. please turn off.

childhood creeps up again. lights out quiet house. i love you.

handpuppets. she's way more skilled than i.

i leave the space around the bed blank for a reason. stare into emptiness. sleep.
