pigs.

I posted my ride photos, but not my piggies! These pigs were a riot! And, I never realized how expressive their little eyes are... too cute.

boat

took the boat out with my dad for a little spin... well, it was supposed to be a much longer one, but it ended up being a short ride due to the fact there is something wrong with the engine... So, I was able to snap a few shots. this was my favorite..

Look for updates on the website soon... I will be posting very soon!

Jupiter

Yeah, I photographed Jupiter :) Pretty neat.. So, the tiny speck that looks like a star, that's jupiter! It was so peaceful being out at 1030 at night with my camera in hand, and hanging out with Jupiter :) I've always been drawn to gazing into the stars/sky... I notice pretty clouds and mean clouds... guess it helps driving a convertible, you learn to watch for what could be rain, but you also learn to appreciate things a lot more, like... air conditioning, knowing you're close to home by the smell of the grass, water and even the feeling of the air. I enjoy my time driving... guess it's why I am okay with long distance driving. (good thing or I'd never see my husband)

But... anyway... here's jupiter for ya!

(note: I'm posting these photos where it looks like there is two moons because I have NO clue why it recorded this way.. I'm going to try to find out!)

Still life photography is a demanding art, one in which the photographers are expected to be able to form their work with a refined sense of lighting, coupled with compositional skills. The still life photographer makes pictures rather than takes them. Knowing where to look for propping and surfaces also is a required skill. This definition taken from wikipedia...

Apparently, I just don't have the ability to create something completely from scratch. I see it as too easy almost. I like the challenge of being forced into using a certain area, location, person or lighting situation. I guess this is why I tend to prefer to use locations better than studio and random people instead of models. I like the challenge of it I guess. Well, anyhow, here's a few still life objects.

I've taken a liking to things found in my Dad's house. Since I'm staying here a few months and don't know after that how often I will get to come back and take the time to wander around in the basement, garage and even just the yard. It's nice to look at different objects and imagine the life they had.

This gun was a present from my stepmother to my father. I find it's importance in the fact that it's meant for duck hunting, but it's so pretty and nice, and he would kill me if he knew I had laid it in the grass (but, I cleaned it off really well :) )

This gumball machine takes pennies... I used to love this thing. It has so many memories (including some gum that is probably antique by now) i also remember my step-sister busting it open and stealing pennies to buy cigarettes down at the soda pop shop, pretty much everything to me has more than one memory.

The record player, still works!! It downright scared me! I moved the plate to dust it off a bit, and it start spinning and playing Jesus Christ Superstar (which happened to be the first record I grabbed, no meaning, just was there) This came from my grandmother's house... I enjoy all memories of her, she is greatly missed. Did some research and found out that this record player was designed in 1911... so, it's over 100 years old.

The globe came from my dad and stepmom's journey across country. they had a flat tire, a sick dog and absolutely no room left in the vehicle, but since my step mom had to have this thing, they bought it and were forced to buy one of those trailer hitch attachments... including another wood carving that they bought. maybe i'll photograph the wood carving soon too. I photographed this globe, but really need more lights to get the details... but, nonetheless, it's the items that are of interest to me.

So, even though the photography is Meh! I enjoy all of these still lifes, and I might put together a little collection of things from my dads basement and things from my grandmother's house.

Football...

So, I went Saturday morning to shoot photos at my 6 yr old nephew's football game. It was fun watching all the kids trying to understand the game... and even the parents, one of which said "the score is 2-2.." umm...mom, I think ya need to read the handbook on football.. :) But, I got a few decent photos, need a monopod, I can't lean down the way I used to be able to. . . getting old I guess :)

Ibiza Nightclub

So, I was able to go into Ibiza and help out with photographing the location and a model in the location. I didn't shoot much that day, spent the day running around moving lights and helping other people, but I had a little time to shoot a few, here is one I liked the best. Our model (I think her name is Audrey) was an awesome model and I look forward to working with her in the future if possible. She was great. Lots of fun. A little different than the photos you're used to seeing on my blog, but... it goes well with my colors scheme, thats for sure :)

Rollergirl

Whatever happened to crimping your hair, putting on your short shorts and heading to the rollerskating rink? Well, it's a lost tradition, that's for sure. My model, Steph, had never roller-skated before and had never had her hair crimped either. Made me feel a little old, but... nonetheless.

On a side note: I could not have imagined doing this shoot without Amber... she was fantastic as an assistant... Our lights didn't work, so we improvised using age old technology (headlights on the car) and then we timed the shots to get some ambient lighting and flashed the model with a hand held strobe. Yes, interesting, but it worked (kinda) and had we not gotten into 3 hours of traffic and had more time, we could have gotten way better results, but these will do for now.. :)

Steph, thanks a million for modeling, you were soooo cooperative and awesome. And Becca, thanks for modeling for the other girls! Good luck with your last year in school! Make it count!

I will post more photos later, but the colors in this one deserved an immediate post as far as I'm concerned.

So much to blog, such little time...

Here's the baby!! So excited! But, it's also a little weird... I'm a photographer and not the first person to photograph my own baby... very odd. But, here's the second ultrasound. I sent out emails to everyone, but in case you didn't get to see it, there it is! Soooo crazy! The last time we saw it, the little home (sac) that it lived in was sooo big in comparison to it's little body... but, the baby almost takes up the whole thing now!! So exciting! Can't wait for Kris to actually be there and see the heartbeat and the pictures... just getting printouts isn't the same... :)

Okay, time for edits and filing and burning and school and shooting tomorrow and then shooting again on saturday.... and then... editing editing editing...

Went to fair, Megan Jean's show, still life work... whoa.... so much to show you, Mr. Bloggy blog... well, it'll happen very soon. I need to spend some time outside on the porch with a mason jar of ice water and my computer... it will happen... promise. soon. like next week... maybe sunday... the day of rest..

love, me, and baby nichols.
